Steelville Middle School is finishing up their collection of items for A Soldier's Wish List. Students from Steelville will join a group from Cuba and will be traveling to St. Louis on Saturday, Dec. 5 to help put packages together.
Anyone who’d like to donate to this cause, please bring items in by Tuesday, December 1st. Suggested items include but are not limited to: CD players, CD's - any type of music, new DVD movies, PSP and all types of computer games, twin sheet sets, hand held games, board games, shower shoes - most requested size is 9 - 12, microwaves, travel pillows, feminine bath sets, white or black socks, t-shirts - black, white or Army green, homemade cookies, hand/foot warmers, blankets, hard candy and/or gum, snack items such as jerky, summer sausage, Little Debbie cakes, packaged cookies, packaged crackers. They could also use some wrapping paper and Christmas ornaments. If the economic downturn has caused a crimp in funding, even cards would be appreciated. Teacher Jennifer Whitson said, “We are desperately looking for items to send over for Christmas, but cards are wonderful, too. In our economic times, few can afford to help others, but cards are a pretty cheap way to tell someone you care. Small town America is the best place to learn sharing--we don't have much, but we share what we do have.” For more information, contact Whitson at
