The Steelville seventh grade boys took first place in the Bourbon tournament the week of November 19. The Cardinals won the tourney by defeating Cuba and Bourbon.
Tourney action started on November 19 with the Cardinals taking on Cuba. Steelville walked away from that game with a 37-16 victory. It was all Steelville as the Wildcats were held to a total of just six points through the first three quarters. The Cardinals jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the opening quarter and led 19-4 at the half. It was 31-6 at the close of the third quarter before the Cardinals coasted home to win by 21. Preston Griggs led Steelville with 14 points. Shawn Ryerson scored six, Caleb Callahan five, Caleb Earney four, Jacob Beers and Thomas Davis three each and Devin Diaz two. Ryerson also had seven rebounds, while Beers had four assists. The Cardinals took on Bourbon in the championship games and managed to get past the Warhawks 27-25 in a tough, hard-fought game. Steelville led most of the way in the finals, which were played November 20. The Cardinals held a two-point lead, 8-6, after the first quarter and were up 17-15 at the half. Steelville widened the gap a bit in the third quarter as they outscored Bourbon 4-3 to make it 21-18 and then held on to win by two. Diaz led the Cardinals with seven points, while Ryerson and Callahan put up six each. Earney scored four and Brendan Bass and Canaan Greer added two each. Ryerson also had nine rebounds.
