Gabrielle Smith and Kenny Highley were crowned Cuba High School’s Homecoming 2014 queen and king during a coronation ceremony at the football field on Friday night. Although it was a cool evening showing first signs of fall, the ceremony managed to go off without any wet weather, as the mist and sprinkles of rain did not begin to fall until after the football game started.

    A stormy morning didn’t deter hundreds of member-owners of Crawford Electric who turned out September 10 for the 74th annual meeting of the cooperative. The skies had cleared by late morning, when more than 1,200 people were able to enjoy a steak sandwich lunch cooked by the Crawford County Cattlemen.

Taxpayers request county roads not be widened

    Several local residents want Crawford County to maintain their roads simply as one-lane country roads and not to the width preferred by county road crews. Attorney Kent Howald submitted a petition signed by 14 people making that request to county commissioners on September 9.

Several lunker caught at Ladies Fishing Day - PHOTO GALLERY

Maramec Spring Park had an awesome day at Saturday for its Ninth Annual Ladies Fishing Day, whichbrought 333 female anglers to the park.  Fourteen out of 40 lunkers were checked in with the biggest topping the scales at 7.6 pounds, which was caught by Tiffany Femmer, of Cuba, who is shown with her new lunker patch.

MMT hosting two Christian groups

MMT hosting two Christian groups

    Two young Christian groups will perform in Steelville next week as part of the “While We’re Young” tour. 1 Girl Nation and OBB co-headline the tour that will make a stop at the Meramec Music Theatre on Thursday, September 18 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
