Homecoming royalty chosen

    Steelville High School has some new royalty following last Friday night’s coronation of sophomore Brendan Bass and senior Kelly Lakaner as homecoming king and queen. The annual homecoming coronation was held between the junior varsity and varsity boys’ basketball games against Newburg.

    Student Council President Randi Ray and President Elect Melanie Perkins served as mistresses of ceremonies for the evening’s events. This year’s homecoming theme was “Box Office Bliss” and song was “Cinema” by Skrillex.
    The SHS classes competed in several activities throughout homecoming week. The seniors and sophomore classes tied for the spirit award and the sophomores won the wall-decorating contest. Each class created a wall decoration based on a popular movie. The sophomore wall featured “King Kong.”
    This year’s retiring king was Julia Callahan and the retiring king was Kyle Meracle. They were escorted to the stage by prince and princess Hayden Marshall and Brooklyn Sexton.
    This year’s freshmen candidates were Colten Mason, son of Tony and Debbie Mason, and Paige Yeomans, daughter of Phil and Dawn Yeomans. Sophomore candidates were Bass, son of Stephan and Julie Bass, and Megan Hammonds, daughter of Steve and Tammy Hammonds. Junior candidates were Matt Lee, son of Matt and Roxie Lee, and Kourtney Carey, daughter of Cleton Carey and Gina and Don Santhuff. Senior candidates were Ryan Brumley, son of Sonja Brumley and Darren Lowe, and Lakaner, daughter of John and Marilyn Lakaner.
