Ettinger impressive in Senior Night performance

In celebration of his Senior Night in front of the home crowd, Kody Ettinger scored 40 points and helped lead his team to victory over the Vienna Eagles last week.

Ettinger, the team’s only graduating senior athlete, was recognized in a brief ceremony before the start of the varsity game, along with his parents at center court. He then went on a tear as soon as the actual game got started, leading the Wildcats in points (40), field goals made (14), free throws made (10), and steals (7). He also contributed six assists and four rebounds.

Once the Wildcats got up on the Eagles early in the contest, it was all over. Cuba struggled to put the game away in the first half but never trailed the entire game.

The Cats led Vienna 26-19 at the end of the first quarter and 47-36 at halftime. Cuba came out of the break strong and pretty much cruised through the second half, answering the call quickly whenever the Eagles began to make a scoring run.

Cuba looked better than their opponent in all four quarters, outscoring them in all four periods. The Cats outdid the Eagles by four points in the third quarter, 23-19, and by five, 18-13, in the fourth, as they cruised to an 88-68 victory.

The win secured Cuba sole possession of the 2013 Gasconade Valley Conference title.

Ettinger was the star with his 40 points in the bag, but he wasn’t the only one getting into the books that night. Three of his teammates also scored in double figures: Ryan Bouse scored 17, Taylor Thompson 13, and Cameron Williams 11 points. Brendan Wild, Bryer Nash, and Nick Lemons all scored two points, and Wes Hardin one.

Thompson led the team with seven assists and six rebounds, and he also had two steals and made three three-pointers. Bouse had six rebounds and two steals for the Cats.
