Shelby Ridenhour led the varsity girls’ track team at the Four-Rivers Conference meet Monday, taking first place in two events in St. Clair. Ridenhour won the 100, 200, was second in the triple jump and was on the 4X100 relay team with Emily Campbell, Hannah Perona and Leah Ybarra that placed third.
“Shelby set a new school record while winning the 200-meter dash in 26.13. She improved her personal best time by over a second and tied the conference meet record that was set in 1988,” said Coach Joe Campbell. “She also easily won the 100-meter dash, posting a time that was .03 off her school record setting best. She earned first team all-conference in both events. She placed second the triple jump, earning a second team all-conference honor. She anchored the third-place all conference honorable mention 4X100 team that set a new school record of 54.19. Emily Campbell, Hannah Perona, and Amie Diestelkamp were the other three members for the record-setting team. All four girls ran really well. Their handoffs continue to be clean and efficient. The relay enters district competition as a medal contender. Shelby had a great meet. She totally dominated the sprints. She seemed to have an extra gear today. She enters district competition as the meet favorite in both sprints.”
The girls’ varsity team placed fifth at the meet with 56 team points. The boys’ varsity placed sixth with 42 team points. The JV boys placed sixth and the JV girls placed eighth.
More varsity girls’ highlights include: Leslie Perona took second in the 3200 and seventh in the 1600; Parker Fane took third in the 800 and 1600.
The varsity boys were led by Alex Auxier with second in the 3200 and seventh in the 1600 and Richard Byfield who took second in the 300 hurdles. Nathan Campbell took third in the 100 hurdles. Two relay teams took fifth place: 4X200 with N. Campbell, Byfield, Mason Ragland and Jake Money, and the 4X400 with Broc Losing replacing N. Campbell. Ragland also took fifth in the triple jump, seventh in the high jump and long jump. Logan Courtois took eighth in the triple jump.
The JV boys excelled at the conference meet. Seth Thompson took first in both hurdle events, the 110M and the 300M and was on the first place 4X200 relay team with Alex Harrop, Danny McCarthy and Tucker Lepper. Harrop took first in the high jump. Lepper came in second in the 400M and fifth in the 200M.
The 4X400 relay team took third with Thompson, Lepper, Harrop and Time Davis. Jordan Howard took sixth in the 1600 and seventh in the 800. Davis took sixth in the long jump and McCarthy took eighth in the triple jump.
Hayley Portell took fourth in the high jump for the JV girls and eighth in the 800. Brittany Youngs took sixth in discus and eighth in shot.
The Tigers will be back in action May 11 when they compete in the district meet at Helias High School in Jefferson City.
