Of the 30,000 species of bees that exist worldwide, 400 of them can be found in Missouri. Bees contribute $14 billion to the value of U.S. crop production. Three quarters of all flowering plants require pollinators, such as bees, to reproduce. In their six week lifespan, one bee produces just 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey. It takes 60,000 bees to produce one pound of honey. And bees have been experiencing a mysterious rash of disappearances over the last decade.
