Locals help with flood relief

After devastating floods impacted many in nearby areas, local flood relief efforts have begun to assist those affected. Donation and relief efforts are still being conducted in St. James and could have a huge impact on those who have lost so much over the last several days.
On Thursday, August 8, members of the St. James Ambulance District (SJAD) collected donations in order to fill an ambulance with supplies. “Our community showed tremendous support and by Saturday, the ambulance base was full of donated items. SJAD employees also pumped gas and washed windows at Mobil On the Run in order to collect tip money to help the flood victims out financially. By Monday, SJAD was able to deliver an ambulance full of donated clothing, food, toiletries, and children’s toys to Pulaski County to be distributed to those in need,” EMS Chief Bryan Lambeth said.
Additionally, $1,206 was presented to the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) to be placed toward the Phelps County Relief Fund. This money will assist those in Phelps County who were affected.
The Meramec Regional Community has been conducting a Pulaski County Flood Relief Fund to assist in the efforts. Donations can be made online at or via mail at Meramec Regional Community Foundation, 4 Industrial Drive, St. James, Missouri, 65559. Checks can be made payable to “Pulaski County Flood Relief Fund.” All donations are tax deductible.
Hutcheson Ford and the Heart of Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross will be holding a fundraising event on August 16-17. A garage sale and donation lunch is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hutcheson Ford.
“The amount of damage we’re seeing in nearby communities is overwhelming. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families these storms have touched the most, particularly those who have suffered the loss of a home,” Butch Tucker, of Hutcheson Ford, said.
Throughout the event, employees will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch is free to anyone, but donations will also be accepted. All profits from the garage sale and lunch will be matched by Hutcheson Ford and immediately be given to the American Red Cross.
