The SHS baseball team played a pair of games last week and came away with two victories. The Cardinals got past Bourbon 16-4 and defeated Crocker 10-6.
Steelville traveled to Bourbon on September 24 and cruised to an easy victory over the Warhawks. Steelville jumped ahead with three runs in the first, added two in the third, three in the fifth and closed the game out with eight in the sixth inning. Bourbon scored twice in the second and twice in the fifth.
Adam Volner and Preston Griggs each had outstanding days at the plate for the Cards. Each of them scored three times, had a double and a home run and drove in five runs.
Caleb Earney also had a great game with a double and a home run, four runs scored and two RBI. Drew Kennedy had one hit and scored three times, Brandon Howdeshell had a pair of hits, Lane Beckere had one hit and one RBI, Canaan Greer had one hit and one run, Josh Hayes had one hit, one run and one RBI and Caleb Parry had a double, one run and one RBI.
Volner and Griggs also pitched for the Cardinals, going three innings each. Volner started and allowed one earned run on two hits, struck out six and walked five. Griggs struck out one and walked five without giving up an earned run.
The Cardinals traveled to Crocker on September 26 and led all the way after taking a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Steelville added on run in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the seventh. Crocker scored once in the second and fourth innings and two in the sixth and seven innings.
Earney had another great day at the plate with four hits, two runs scored, one home run and three RBI. Griggs had three hits, including two doubles, two runs and two RBI, Volner had a pair of hits, two runs, one double and one RBI, Howdeshell had a single and a double, two runs and two RBI, Kennedy had one hit and one run, Becker and Greer each had one hit and Blake Schneider had one run scored.
Becker pitched five and two-thirds inning, striking out three, walking two and allowing one earned run on seven hits Griggs pitched one and one-third inning. He also allowed one earned run on five hits while striking out three and walking three.
The Cards played their final home game Monday against Newburg and will play at Arcadia Valley on Tuesday before taking part in the West County tournament Friday and Saturday.
