'Riders for Refuge' will benefit Russell House

    “Riders for Refuge,” sponsored by Cowtown USA, is a fundraiser to benefit Russell House, a local organization that offers support to battered and abused women. The event will be held on Friday and Saturday, October 11 and 12, and riders may register for one or both days’ rides.

    The registration fee is $30 per day and includes a t-shirt (while supplies last) and a goody bag. All proceeds will go to Russell House. Interested riders may register online at or Registration on site at Cowtown USA (413 Daniels Road, Cuba) will begin at 10 a.m. on October 11 and be available all day on October 12.
    There will be 50- and 100-mile mystery rides available both days with maps provided. Food will also be available throughout both days for $6 per meal. At 5 p.m. on Saturday, there will be a presentation ceremony with an announcement of total funds raised to benefit the work of Russell House.     Russell House provides emergency shelter and free services to victims of domestic and sexual violence and to their children. These services include 24/7 shelter and advocacy, children and adult counseling, support groups, parenting skills, and health and wellness groups.
    The fundraising event has been planned during October since it is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and hopes to focus some attention on an issue that affects more than one in four women in the United States.
