Cuba Fest returns to Smith Street this weekend

Cuba Fest, the annual fall arts and crafts festival in Cuba, returns to the historic district of Smith Street this weekend for its 52nd year. There’s plenty of entertainment for the entire family on tap for the two-day festival.

Saturday’s big day of events kicks off at 8 a.m. with the Route 66 Mural City 5K and Fun Run to benefit All Aboard Learning Center. Registration for the run/walk starts at 7 a.m. that morning, coinciding with the start of a country breakfast being held in the Masonic Lodge basement (food served from 7 a.m. until noon).

Apple butter making by the Tri-C Club ladies and the arts and crafts show booths will be open throughout the day. Bank of Sullivan will offer pumpkin decorating from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Peoples Bank offers face painting from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Behind the Lines Band performs on the Cuba Fest stage from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., with Chris Case performing acoustic music on the street stage from 1 to 2 p.m.

Route 66 Mural City trolley tours make their runs around town from 11 to 4 p.m., and the Cuba Arts Council Taste of Cuba and Wine Tent will be open during that same time frame.

Viva Cuba holds its Chili Cookoff from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with Wise Little Owls offering a decorating activity for kids during that same time. A flag ceremony with the Cuba High School Choir performing will be at noontime.

Mace’s shopping cart races will take place at 1 p.m., the First Community National Bank pet costume contest and parade at 2 p.m., and Zumba with Kelly and Judy also at 2 p.m.

On Sunday, the arts and crafts booths will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., as will pumpkin decorating.

The CAC food and wine tent will be open from noon until 4 p.m., and Viva Cuba will offer Cemetery Tours from noon until 4 p.m.

Cuba Arts Council will host the Funky Fashion Show of recycled clothing at 1 p.m., and the shopping cart races will resume at 1 p.m.

There will be a Route 66 Tour de Fun from 1 to 3 p.m. The tricycle race course should be fun for the kids.

At 3 p.m., the CHS Marching Band will perform on Smith Street in front of the library.

All Aboard Learning Center will offer a bounce house all day, both days, and the Cuba Chamber of Commerce will have a coloring contest for kids both days.

Be sure to come out this weekend and enjoy the wonderful fall Ozarks weather in Cuba. Cuba Fest will take place in the Historic Recklein District, at the intersection of Smith and School streets.
