Cuba man charged with sex crime in STL County

A 32-year-old Cuba man was arrested by St. Louis County police detectives last weekend on charges of attempted statutory sodomy. Police say the man was seeking an adult, female partner that would engage in sex with him and an 11-year-old relative of his.

Anthony Brinkman, 32, of the 100 block of East Street in Cuba, has been charged in St. Louis County with one count of attempted statutory sodomy, following an incident that took place on Friday. Police say Brinkman was caught soliciting for a girlfriend that would participate in sex with both him and the 11-year-old girl.

According to a news report filed by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, investigators became aware of Brinkman after he posted an online ad and was anonymously reported to the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. A female undercover officer posed as a potential candidate and was allegedly told by Brinkman that he wanted her to participate in sexually assaulting the child and to help find the young girl a boyfriend. According to police, Brinkman sent pictures of the girl and also posted them online during the exchange.

The Post-Dispatch reported that Brinkman agreed to meet with the undercover officer at a south St. Louis County Cracker Barrel restaurant and, if he liked her, return to his home in Cuba to have sex with the girl. Brinkman arrived at the restaurant parking lot, along with the 11-year-old relative, and was arrested at the scene on Friday. Charges were filed the following day and he remains in custody on a $100,000, cash-only bond.

Quoting a detective handling the case, the report stated Brinkman did admit to setting up the assault and said he was sorry for doing it and that he had acted stupidly.
