Fun run will benefit late firefighter's daughter

Freezin’ for a Reason’s second annual 5K Walk/Run will benefit the daughter of a Rolla firefighter who lost his life in a vehicle accident. The event will be held on Saturday, February 22 in St. James.

All proceeds from the event will be given in honor of Firefighter Steve Huffman to his daughter, Myridian Benefield, to help offset expenses as she finishes high school and begins college. Freezin’ for a Reason is sponsored by the Emergency Service Workers Relief Fund and the St. James Ambulance District.
This is a nighttime event, and open to all ages, but minors must be accompanied by an adult. Costumes are encouraged, and the event may involve paint, powder, or foam, too, so participants are reminded to be aware of that possibility.
The race will be timed for those who wish to compete and the route will be posted online before the event date. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest male and female runners in addition to best costume, along with others for various age categories.
Sign-in and registration will begin at 5 p.m. and the walk/run starts at 6 p.m., all in Nelson Hart Park. Restrooms and rehab will be available.
Registration is under way, and participants who do so before February 18 are guaranteed an event T-shirt (which will be provided on race day). For more information, check out the event’s Facebook page, which includes a link to the online registration form (www.facebook.com/freezingreason).
