Three wrestling Tigers make it to the final round of the Owensville Invitational on Saturday. Daniel Davis and Taylor Busche took second in their weight class, 128 and 160 respectively, and Danny McCarthy finished third in the 132-weight class.
The Owensville Invitational Tournament was a bit of a roller coaster for St. James. None of the Tigers won their first-round matches, but all of them— Sean Hunter, Danny McCarthy, Daniel Davis, Beau Campbell, Theon Hope, Taylor Busche, Austin Gibson, and Logan Bullock—won in the second round.
Round three of the tournament brought wins to Hunter, Davis, Campbell, Busche and Bullock. McCarthy, Davis, Busche, Hope, and Bullock all won in the fourth round and McCarthy, Hunter, Davis and Busche were winners in the fifth round.
McCarthy lost the second-place match, taking third, and Davis won the second place match. It was the last time at the tournament for Busche and Davis, who both have impressive records at the tourney. Busche has 9-4 and Davis 18-2.
The Tigers overpowered the North County wrestlers January 14, 42-28. Individual matches won by pin were Davis at 138 Thompson 145 and Busche 160. The meet started and ended with several exhibition matches. Both teams gained points by forfeit with the other squad not having a participant in a weight bracket.
After wrestling in Union Tuesday, the Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, January 28, against Sullivan at 5 p.m.
