Art in the Park coming to Steelville Saturday

Art in the Park is coming to Steelville on Saturday, April 12. The event, sponsored by the Steelville Arts Council, will take place at the Steelville Community Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature live music throughout the day, art demos and art vendors, a children’s shopping tent, a children’s paint-your-own ceramic art tent, and a chalk artist display area. Admission is free.

Musical entertainment will begin at 10 a.m. with the “Old Guys Band,” followed by “Third Sons” at 11 a.m., “Trilogy” at noon, and “Saxy Jazz” at 2 p.m. In case of inclement weather, musicians will perform at Gallery Zeke.
Art vendors for the day include ceramic artists Rob Bowness and Tina Heusler, mixed media artists Barb Bryan and Barb Cook, photography, sculpture, and glasswork. Marsha Delcour, of “In the Kitchen” will serve food. There is still space available for both art and food vendors. Registration is $30 for a 10-foot by 10-foot space. Vendors must supply their own tent, table, and display holders for their work. For more information on reserving a space, contact Jack Bowles at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or at (573) 743-3478.
Special activities for children include pottery glazing and their own shopping area. Children ages 18 and under will have the opportunity to glaze their choice of bisque ware, which will be fired later. Finished pieces will be available for pick up during the month of May on Saturdays at Gallery Zeke. Children ages 12 and under can shop at the Children's Art Tent. Everything is handmade, and reduced in price for the children. This includes jewelry, ceramic art, and more.
There will also be a chalk art contest. Individuals, families, groups (such as 4-H clubs, scout packs, etc.) are invited to come out and create their own piece of chalk art that will be judged. Small prizes will be awarded for the best works. Chalk artist Craig Thomas will also be creating a display.
Information for the event can be found on the Steelville Arts Council Facebook page and on the website at www.steelvilleartscouncil.org.
