City offering signups for emergency system

The Everbridge Mass Notification System is available for St. James residents to keep informed of severe weather, fires, road closures, gas leaks, and citywide emergencies. Residents can sign up for the system online or at the Municipal Center or Golden Age Center to receive notifications in the event of an emergency.

Once signed up, the system will contact residents instantly via phone, text messaging, email, and more and the recipients can define how they would like to be notified and for what emergency situations. The city of St. James and the Municipal Utilities will use the system to keep families informed about important city-related events, road closures, street cleanings and safety concerns. Those subscribed can have multiple land lines, cell phones, and other contact info so the system will continue trying to contact the individual until it receives confirmation.
Sign up is easy and can be done through the city of St. James webpage at www.stjamesmo.org. Users will be asked to create an account with a user name and password. They, then can choose which alerts they would like to receive, where their residence or business is located, any special needs, and locations they would like to be alerted for. Up to five addresses can be monitored. After entering contact information, users then set an order of priority in how they would like to be contacted. Should a user no longer wish to use the service, a delete profile option is available.
“We have a computer set up (at the Municipal Center) and at the Golden Age Center for anyone needing a computer to sign up on,” Mayor Dennis Wilson explained.
Information about the program and directions to sign up are also available to residents. The mass notification system is being made available by the Phelps County Commission in partnership with the Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff's Department is funding this first year of service, after which the county will take control of the program. Any user in Phelps County can sign up for free to receive emergency notices.
