Sullivan residents to see big tax hike

    Sullivan residents of Crawford County will see an increase in the tax on their utilities beginning with their April billing, just like all other residents of the county. County commissioners approved the quarter-cent increase in December of last year for E-911, and the city of Sullivan received notification from the Missouri Department of Revenue that the utility tax should be collected in April. However, in looking into the tax, it was discovered that Sullivan had not been collecting the existing half-cent domestic utilities tax for the Crawford County Capital Improvement Tax. As a result, city of Sullivan residents will now see an increase of three-quarters of a cent in their utility tax.
