Rainwater Arms now offers concealed carry course

Rainwater Arms is now offering the opportunity to take the concealed carry class at their gun shop. Concealed carry is a class that individuals can take to obtain a permit to carry a loaded firearm. The classes are designed to provide extra firearm protection for people.

To take the concealed carry course, you must be 21 years or older—or 18 years if you are on active duty in the Armed Forces. The concealed carry class is $75 for an individual or $65 for people in groups of two or more. The class includes lunch, books, and eight hours of learning. The cost of firearm rentals is $15 for the first firearm and $10 for the second, and the fee includes ammo.

“Business kept growing. We started doing concealed carry because our children wanted to get their concealed carry license and host a course. One thing led to another, so we got certified,” said Carol Rainwater. “People feel more confident with it and concealed carry offers more of a level of protection.”

Several topics are covered in the concealed carry class, including Missouri state laws of justifiable use of force, cleaning and maintenance, range safety, handling and safe storage, aiming and grip, and how to correct a malfunction. Students will shoot a .22-caliber semi-automatic pistol and a revolver.

“We try to give great personal service, specialize in concealed carry products and give the best training,” said John Rainwater. “We will work the concealed carry class around a person’s schedule.”

In order to obtain your concealed carry permit, you must not have been convicted of any felonies, must be a U.S. citizen, a Missouri resident, have no weapons convictions, have no orders of protection against you, not be dishonorably discharged from the military or a fugitive of law, and have a certificate of gun safety training from a certified instructor.

Children over the age of 13 may also take a basic firearms class with parental consent.

A person does not need a background check to take the course. To obtain a permit, citizens of Crawford County will have to go to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department in Steelville and fill out paperwork, at which time they will be fingerprinted and have a background check completed.

Permits must be renewed every 5 years.

Citizens interested in taking the concealed carry course should contact Rainwater Arms at 573-885-1518. Rainwater Arms is located at 1219 McDade Springs Road in Cuba.
