Deryl Lee Harris
Deryl Lee Harris of Steelville, Missouri was born on Thursday, August 8, 1963 in Rolla, Missouri to Hartford Cordell and Beretha “Nellie” Smith Harris and passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the age of 50 years, 10 months and 10 days.
Deryl was a lifelong resident of Steelville, Missouri. He was a graduate of Steelville High School and attended college in Rolla, Missouri.
He married Cheryl Farrar on December 23, 1981 in Steelville, Missouri and to this union three children were born.
Deryl worked at Manchester Packing in St. James, Missouri for a number of years until he became disabled by his diabetes. He was a former member of the United Baptist Church in Steelville, Missouri and preached occasionally there and at other churches until his health failed. He loved fishing, playing guitar and singing, doing yardwork and gardening. He enjoyed working on vehicles and particularly liked and owned several 66 Chevy Impalas.
Deryl felt fortunate to have met his companion and caregiver, Lynne Mabe. He enjoyed the time they spent together and was considered “Grandpa” to her grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Beretha “Nellie” Smith Harris; grandparents, Dallas and Beulah (Callahan) Harris and Emory and Daphna (Benton) Smith.
He is survived by his significant other, Lynne Mabe; father, Hartford Harris; children, Bobby (Gwen) Harris and Jared Harris and Dixie Harris; mother of his children, Cheryl Harris, all of Steelville, Missouri; brothers, Steve (Debby) Harris of Cuba, Missouri, Ron (Becky) Harris of Steelville, Missouri, Roger (Lily) Harris of Tecumseh, Oklahoma and Brad (Molly) Harris of Cook Station, Missouri; sisters, Cheryl (Ken) Bennett and Carol (Mike) Davis, all of Steelville, Missouri; grandchildren, Cyrus and Tyson Harris, Colin, Aspen, and Haven Albin, Madelyn and Skye Mabe, all of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Friday, June 20, 2014 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and funeral service was June 20, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Bro. Bob Coleman officiating.
Burial at the Martin-Trask Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri.
