VFW to hold benefit for volunteer

Cuba VFW Post 7147 will be holding a “Car Cruisin” benefit on Saturday, July 12 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. There will be barbecue, karaoke, a 50-50 raffle, door prizes, a silent auction, bake sale, music, and food.

All proceeds from the event will go towards medical expenses for Doug Crownover. Crownover is scheduled to have another surgery in the next few months. He is a retired volunteer firefighter and a member of the VFW sports complex, and has dedicated his life to helping the veterans of Cuba.

Diana Janes decided that it was the right time to help the man who has done so much for their organization and started organizing the benefit.

“Doug has done so much for our post,” Janes said. “He has done a lot of our electrical wiring, mowed our grass, and kept the upkeep on the sports complex. He has donated a lot of time and money to help this organization, and I felt like we needed to help him out.”

Those who attend the benefit can have their classic cars judged or just show off their cars for a small registration fee. There will also be fun stuff for children to do, as well.

Janes added that the VFW could use volunteer help that day, and the VFW is looking for any donations possible. “We would deeply appreciate all the business that we can get down here that day,” Janes said.
