Senior program dinner and auction set for Saturday

The St. James Golden Age Center (GAC) will be holding a fundraiser on July 12. Donations will be used as silent auction items to raise money for the senior center. Many local businesses have donated items for a silent auction for the fundraising effort and GAC volunteers hope to raise enough to cover their yearly operating costs.

On Saturday at the Community Center in Nelson Hart Park, Golden Age Center volunteers will be hosting a dinner and silent auction of items donated by area businesses, as well as advertising the businesses that donated, to raise money for their local nutrition program. Each year, approximately $36,000 has to be earned to keep the center open.
Last year, more than 16,000 meals were served to local seniors as part of the program. The Golden Age Center is a non-profit 501c3 organization and hopes to get help from local businesses to continue offering low-cost meals to the seniors of St. James. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5 p.m.
GAC volunteers have been working over the past few weeks with local businesses to get donations and prizes for the evening. Silent auction items include items like a professional tooth whitening kit, a $325 value, gift cards to gas stations in the area, food gift certificates, stadium chairs, gift baskets, and oil changes, to name a few.
More than 30 prizes will be up for auction and GAC volunteers will be serving dinner to guests throughout the evening. Both the dinner and auction are scheduled to end at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Golden Age Center in the Nelson Hart Park and are $9 in advance, $10 at the door on the day of the event. Children get in for $4.50.
All proceeds will stay in the local facility, assisting with operating costs and maintaining the service seniors in the area benefit from. For tickets or to learn more contact the Golden Age Center at (573) 265-7072.
