Police looking for vehicle that struck and killed area man

A man’s body was found lying next to Highway 19 near Steelville on Monday evening, and Steelville police are seeking any information related to his death.

Police and EMS personnel were called to the site on Monday just after 5 p.m. when a person driving a truck past the area noted the body of Dustin Depew, 25, of Berryman, lying face down in some tall grass, partially down the embankment near the shoulder of the road. He was found just north of Golden Oak Road, deceased, and appeared to have been struck by a vehicle.
Upon further investigation by the Crawford County Coroner and Steelville police, it appears Depew was walking southbound along the roadway, and was struck late Saturday night by a mid-1990s (1992-1997) Ford Crown Victoria. This vehicle should have front-end damage, and the right headlight broken out.
Anyone with information connected to this incident is asked to contact the Steelville Police Department at (573) 775-2200. “The police need your help in finding out who struck him, and then left him roadside,” Police Chief Lydle Davis stated.
