Auditor says city funds look better
St. James Aldermen heard from Mark Kean, of Kean & Company, who reported on the annual audit during the October 14 council meeting. The audit looks at all funds and balances of the year ending on April 30, 2014 and Kean reported a clean audit for the city.
Winery listed among best in the world
St. James Winery recently placed in the top 15 of the World Association of Wine and Spirits Writers and Journalists annual list of the 100 Top Wineries in the World.
The James Memorial Public Library will be holding book giveaway on Halloween night. Children who come to the library in costume on October 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. will receive a free book. The “BOOOKFest,” as the library staff is calling it, was very successful last year and they hope to grow the event, now in its second year.
Huffman said he should have been granted leave of absence from board
Former St. James School Board member Gary Huffman is questioning why he is not being allowed to finish out his term. Over the past 18 plus years, Huffman has served on the board, but recently signed a letter of resignation, vacating his seat. He claims that actions were taken against him to keep him off the board.
Stowers tapped to take vacancy on school board
The St. James Board of Education met in special session on October 9 to approve a replacement board member to fill the position left vacant by the resignation of Gary Huffman. Tina Stowers, Diana Rinehart and Sam Auxier were the candidates narrowed by a board committee and each was interviewed during the meeting. Stowers was ultimately appointed to the board.
Red Regiment reaches finals at Valhalla
The Red Regiment Marching Band competed in the Valhalla Marching Festival at Parkview High School last Saturday, making the finals for only the second time in the six years. Competing against much larger schools, including class four and five schools, the band earned a spot in the finals and brought home some personal trophies.
