Totem pole donated to camp as part of Eagle Scout project

    Camp Brimshire recently played host to Zack Quinn, who completed the requirements to earn his Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout award. Quinn has been a regular attendee of the scout camps for years, beginning as a Cub Scout and is a member of Boy Scout Troop 271 of North St. Louis County.

School lunches to be scrutinized

    The St. James School District is participating in a test pilot program to study the recent changes in school nutrition and costs associated with how these changes are impacting schools. The School Nutrition and Meal Cost Study (SNMCS) will be conducted for one full school year and the results will give districts a better understanding of how the new regulations affect their costs and student nutrition.

PTO collecting personal items for needy kids

    The St. James Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is holding a holiday project to collect household items to be distributed to needing children in St. James. From November 17 through December 8, PTO members will collect items, which will then be distributed to children in the school district for the holidays.

Administrator admits change was made to policy manual

• Davis apologizes to aldermen, says council can overrule the decision
    During last week’s St. James City Council meeting, concerns were raised about a perceived change in the city’s employee handbook that resulted in two utility workers quitting. The policy in question pertained to how supervisors managed overtime costs and City Administrator Jeff Davis told the council the policy was not changed, but was being enforced more than in the past.

Gardeners halfway to restoring glade in St. James City Park

    Members of a Master Naturalist Class spent November 1 restoring a glade in the St. James City Park. The class has chosen the glade for a volunteer project and hopes to restore the seven acres and create a maintenance plan ready to keep the glade in good condition.

Author will sign books during sale at library

    The James Memorial Public Library will be hosting a book sale and book signing this weekend. Friends of the Library will have thousands of titles for purchase in both hardback and paperback as well as CDs, DVDs, and VHS tapes for sale and author Ellen Alexander will be in the Children’s Reading Room on Saturday signing copies of her children’s book “The Secret of Dinswood.”
