Livestock auction a big success at the fair

Sales net over $200,000, considerable increase from previous year

This year’s livestock auction at the county fair saw 136 4-H and FFA animals being auctioned to the highest bidder. Hogs were the top commodity, with 83 of them sold on Saturday, the final day of the fair at Hood Park. There were also 31 steers, eight country cured bacon slabs, seven goats, three lambs, two meat pens of chickens, and two meat pens of rabbits sold on that day.

Steelville teen crowned county fair queen

    After a 13-year drought, Steelville reigns once again over the Crawford County Fair. Kelsie Jean Booker, daughter of Rick and Teresa Booker, was crowned the 2014 Crawford County Fair Queen during coronation ceremonies Thursday, July 10. She was sponsored by the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Troop I to host Corporal Michael E. Webster Memorial Blood Drive

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, would like to invite the public to take part in the “Red Cross, Troop I Michael E. Webster Memorial Blood Drive” on Friday, October 3, 2014. The blood drive will be held at the Troop I Headquarters located at 1301 Nagogami Road West, Rolla, Missouri. The drive will begin at noon and conclude at 4 pm. All presenting donors are reminded to please have a photo ID present. Those who participate will also receive a complimentary gift bag.


Sales tax revenue declines in September

    During the week of September 11, Phelps County commissioners:
    • Approved a contract for the Maternal Child Health Services for the Health Department.
    • Heard from Treasurer Carol Green, who reported that sales tax funds received in September 2014 were down 4.36 percent under September 2013. Year-to-date receipts are up 5.70 percent over the same period in 2013.
