City digging out from winter blast
More winter weather visited St. James this week as a blast of arctic air brought as much as one foot of snow and temperatures well below zero to the area. City street workers have been very busy getting streets as clean as possible. Work started on Saturday in preparation of the storm and is continuing.
Several candidates have filed for ambulance, fire district races
Ballots for city and school positions are taking shape as candidate filing is well under way. Positions on the St. James City Council, Board of Education, and Ambulance and Fire districts are filling up for the April Election. Filing will be open until January 21 at 5 p.m.
Local police selling T-shirts to benefit annual Torch Run
St. James Police officers are selling Torch Run T-shirts to raise money for the Torch Run Special Olympics. The annual fundraiser has been very successful in the past and officers hope to continue the tradition of giving back to the competition.
Jazz band members headed to New York
John F. Hodge High School jazz band students will be holding fundraisers throughout the second semester to fund a trip to New York this summer. Students have been raising money over the past two years in preparation of their next trip. Most recently, students traveled to Kansas City to learn about the rich jazz history of the area.
Sports Club helps brighten holiday for more than 400 local children
St. James Sports Club volunteers wrapped up their toy drive season on December 22. After months of collecting donations and toys to deliver to needing children in the community, members and volunteers met to wrap toys in an evening event before delivering them to the community for Christmas.
2013 was year of improvements in St. James
