House committee investigates Highway Patrol after drowning death of Patrol arestee

JEFFERSON CITY -  Missouri's Highway Patrol superintendent refused to provide information about the death of a 20-year-old Iowa resident who drowned while in the custody of a water patrol trooper during an Oct. 1 House committee hearing.

JEFFERSON CITY – More than 400,000 Missourians are already registered to take part in the Great Central U. S. “ShakeOut” earthquake drill, which is scheduled for 10:16 a.m. on Oct. 16. Last year, more than 2.4 million people in 10 states took part in the annual drill that teaches participants to “Drop, Cover and Hold On.”


More workers to be trained for in-demand jobs in STEM fields, thanks to $19.7 million grant, Gov. Nixon says

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon today said that a $19.7 million grant to Missouri’s 12 community colleges and the State Technical College of Missouri will bolster the state’s economy and increase the number of Missourians with a post-secondary degree by training an estimated 1,900 workers for in-demand careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Jay Nixon arrived in Afghanistan on Saturday (Sept. 27) as part of a delegation of four U.S. Governors that included Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Tennessee Gov. William Haslam. This is the fourth trip to Afghanistan for Gov. Nixon, who is one of the original members of the Council of Governors, formed in 2010 to address matters pertaining to the National Guard and homeland security.

Gov. Nixon announces Missourians named to the Comprehensive State Energy Plan steering committee

JEFFERSON CITY – More than 50 leaders in business, labor, education, and energy have been named to the Comprehensive State Energy Plan steering committee, Gov. Jay Nixon announced today. The steering committee will hold its inaugural public meeting on Oct. 1 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Louis at Washington University’s Eric P. Newman Education Center Auditorium. Additional meetings will be held throughout the month of October.
