Harney Mansion Foundation to host exhibit Aug. 30-Oct. 26

    The Harney Mansion Foundation at Sullivan, Missouri will be the host site for the State of Missouri’s traveling exhibit “The Civil War in Missouri: A state divided” from August 30 to October 26, 2014. The traveling exhibit was created by the Missouri History Museum and the Missouri Humanities Council and has been seen in numerous towns and cities across the state.

Annual Rock Swap being held June 13-15 at Missouri Mines State Historic Site

    The public will have the opportunity to buy, sell, swap or just admire rocks, minerals and fossils at the Missouri Mines Rock Swap June 13-15 at Missouri Mines State Historic Site in Park Hills. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the event will be held from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday.

State Fair Celebrates Kids in Agriculture calls for entries in new tomato and poster contests

    A new event day, Celebrate Kids in Agriculture Saturday, Aug. 16, will top the list of exciting new promotions offered at the 2014 Missouri State Fair. Activities this day will be coordinated by the Missouri State Fair and Missouri Department of Agriculture, and sponsored by Missouri Department of Conservation. The day will acknowledge youth currently involved in Missouri's agriculture industry, and help raise awareness of and encourage an interest in agriculture among Missouri youth. Plans this day will include free gate admission for children ages 12 years of age and younger, free old-fashioned harvest games and new contests in two competitive exhibit categories. The event day will be the culmination of the 2014 Fair's marketing campaign, which includes a heightened emphasis on celebrating youth.

Poets will do readings and writing workshop

    Two Louisiana poets—who also happen to be married—will be coming to the area for a poetry reading and writing workshop in June, as part of the Steelville Arts Council’s artist in residence program.
