First float trip

I took my grandsons on a float trip in search of hard fighting smallmouth bass, fishing a section of the Niangua River gained by private access where the canoe rental people do not operate, where we could have a little solitude and some good fishing. It was their first long distance float trip, and we had to wait for it to quit raining before we could start. Ryan is eleven years old and Alex is eight. Casting lures is not their strong point, so I knew we would have a difficult time catching the wary and elusive brown bass, and perhaps an even greater difficulty in landing them after we hooked them.

Old Iron Works Days set for Saturday

    The 36th Annual OLD IRON WORKS DAY’S will be held on October 11th and 12th at beautiful Maramec Spring Park located 6 miles southeast of St. James on Highway #8.  Crafts will be demonstrated continuously during the two-day event.  Displays and other activities will be ongoing each day.
