Steelville fire calls down in 2013

    Steelville firefighters responded to a total of 311 calls in 2013, working to protect local residents and their property in a variety of situations. The Steelville Fire Protection District covers 400 square miles and includes fire stations in Steelville, Cherryville, and Berryman.

San Val building donated to city

    The San Val Incorporated building now belongs to the city of Steelville. Owner Sandy Jaffe donated the 27,000 square foot structure to the city at the end of December, after closing the bookbinding business that he had operated here since 1984 earlier this year.

Rally dates announced

    The Rally in the 100 Acre Wood is coming back to the area next month, with the race scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 21 and 22. Steelville will once again play host to the national event on Friday.

Fired policeman now running for city marshal

    In executive session on December 16, council members terminated Charles Bunch’s employment with the police department, after he had worked there for almost two years. During the same session, the council hired Anthony Michael Barr as a patrolman. Bunch has since filed to run for city marshal.
