Library will host Halloween book giveaway

    The James Memorial Public Library will be holding book giveaway on Halloween night. Children who come to the library in costume on October 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. will receive a free book. The “BOOOKFest,” as the library staff is calling it, was very successful last year and they hope to grow the event, now in its second year.

Huffman said he should have been granted leave of absence from board

    Former St. James School Board member Gary Huffman is questioning why he is not being allowed to finish out his term. Over the past 18 plus years, Huffman has served on the board, but recently signed a letter of resignation, vacating his seat. He claims that actions were taken against him to keep him off the board.

Stowers tapped to take vacancy on school board

    The St. James Board of Education met in special session on October 9 to approve a replacement board member to fill the position left vacant by the resignation of Gary Huffman. Tina Stowers, Diana Rinehart and Sam Auxier were the candidates narrowed by a board committee and each was interviewed during the meeting. Stowers was ultimately appointed to the board.

Red Regiment reaches finals at Valhalla

    The Red Regiment Marching Band competed in the Valhalla Marching Festival at Parkview High School last Saturday, making the finals for only the second time in the six years. Competing against much larger schools, including class four and five schools, the band earned a spot in the finals and brought home some personal trophies.

PTO seeking help with Trunk ‘R Treat

    Trunk ‘R Treat will return to the Lucy Wortham James Elementary School on Friday October 31. The St. James Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is looking for interested local businesses, school groups or clubs, scouts and church groups to participate in the annual event.

Nixon names St. James Winery CEO to state’s Energy Steering Committee

    Dr. Peter Hofherr, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of St. James Winery, has been appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon to a new committee to guide the development of a statewide energy plan. Hofherr is one of more than 50 leaders in business, labor, education and energy from throughout Missouri to be named to the Comprehensive State Energy Plan steering committee.
