MoDOT engineer explains sales tax proposal
Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) Area Engineer Preston Kramer spoke to the St. James City Council Monday night about a proposed statewide sales tax on the August ballot. The tax would fund MoDOT projects across the state for the next 10 years.
The St. James Golden Age Center (GAC) will be holding a fundraiser on July 12. Donations will be used as silent auction items to raise money for the senior center. Many local businesses have donated items for a silent auction for the fundraising effort and GAC volunteers hope to raise enough to cover their yearly operating costs.
Local teachers become ‘Champions of Change’
Fifty-five teachers from the St. James school district recently attended a workshop called “Champions of Change.” Teachers who attended reported it was a great conference, covering the basics of what teachers are trying to achieve in the classroom.

The issue will appear on the August 5 primary ballot, giving voters the opportunity to decide if they want a three-fourth cent sales tax for road improvements.
Cancer survivor gets first haircut in two years
A St. James cancer survivor received her first haircut on Friday since being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012. Cindy Wiggins celebrated with her friends at the Razors Edge after losing her hair to chemotherapy during her cancer treatments over the past two years.
Smith delivers new books from Congress
On Friday, June 27, Congressman Jason Smith personally delivered five full boxes of books donated from the Surplus Books Program to the James Memorial Public Library. The books were duplicates from the Library of Congress and will be used for different purposes at the facility.
