Football Cards will host three games this season

    The Steelville Cardinals Community Football team is kicking off a six-game season this weekend in Jefferson City. The Cards are scheduled to host three games this year.

    The young (and a bit short-handed to open the season) Steelville High School softball team hit the diamond for the first time Saturday, playing three games in the New Haven tournament. The Lady Cardinals provided some good competition, but took three losses on the day.

Two youth football teams still in hunt for FRC titles - PHOTO GALLERY

    Two of the St. James Youth Football teams won their Four-Rivers Conference playoff games this past Saturday. The fifth-grade Tigers earned their victory at home over Hermann 6-0.

Young Tigers hosting playoff

    On Saturday at the John F. Hodge High School sports multipurpose complex, the fifth-grade Tigers will be playing a first round playoff game against Hermann at 2:30 p.m.

Softball team takes second at districts

    The Lady Tiger softball team took second in the Class 3, District 9 tournament last week and closed the season with an awesome record of 19-8. The tournament started in Sullivan, but concluded in St. Clair due to the weather.

Football Tigers stand in fourth for districts

    Despite losing to Union 68-20 last Friday night, the St. James varsity football team is solidly in fourth place in the district standings and could wind up hosting a first-round playoff game on October 24. The Tigers are narrowly ahead of fifth-place Salem.
