City trying to market old San Val bulding

    The city of Steelville will soon be advertising the availability of the old San Val building. Aldermen agreed at Monday’s city council meeting to purchase a banner to install in front of the former factory to begin the process of letting the public know it could be utilized. Comptroller Jennifer Basham also pointed out that there are websites that allow government entities to post such items at no cost.

School district receives donation from bank

    The July meeting of the Steelville Board of Education was held Thursday, July 17. The following business was conducted:
    • Peggy Alexander of First Community National Bank presented the Board with a check for $1,756.74 from the Cardinal Debit Card program.

Riverat Challenge to raise funds for track

    A new type of physical challenge is coming to the area to help raise funds for the Steelville Community Park track. The first Riverat Challenge, which includes a two-mile run, two-mile kayak, and mud course, will be held in Steelville on September 13.

Great weather makes for great Freedom Fest (PHOTO GALLERY)

    Another year of the Steelville Freedom Festival is in the books and, thanks to cool weather and great entertainment, it was another successful story. The Steelville Community Park was packed with people of all ages coming together to celebrate another year of freedom and independence.

SHS graduate interns for Jason Smith

    A dream became reality during the month of May for a Steelville High School graduate. Hannah Beers, a 2012 graduate of SHS and a junior at Evangel University in Springfield, fulfilled her dream of working on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. as an intern for Congressman Jason Smith.
