SMS students working feverishly to honor veterans

    SMS Social Studies Teacher Jennifer Whitson’s students are hard at work on several more projects to honor veterans—this time involving those who served during the Vietnam era.

Mobile home destroyed by fire

    Steelville fire crews responded to a first alarm, residential fire on River Ridge Lane on Sunday, April 6 just after noon. However, by the time the call came in, the mobile home had been burning for some time, so that when fire personnel arrived on the scene, it had had enough time to burn itself to the ground.

Greer, Medlock, Perkins elected to school board

    Voters favored candidates with experience in Tuesday’s election, returning those who had already served on school board and city council. Voters also selected a new member to the fire board.

Sports Club’s contract on hold

    Miscommunication between the city of Steelville and the Steelville Sports Club led to some intense discussion at Monday night’s city council meeting. Sports club members and other volunteers recently completed a project to change the configuration of the aluminum bleachers located in the Community Park next to the baseball and softball fields. The project, however, had not been approved by the city council and some aldermen were not pleased as a result. When the Sports Club came to ask for a renewed contract and approval of some other park improvements, they were refused.

Help clean up the Yadkin on Good Friday

    The Steelville High School senior class and Steelville Star Stream Team are teaming up for a Yadkin Creek Cleanup Day on Good Friday, April 18. The event will begin at 2 p.m. at Hoppe Spring Park.
