Steelville gets new K-9 unit
Steelville’s K9 Unit has a new vehicle designed especially for its particular needs, thanks to a grant from CLERF (County Law Enforcement Restitution Fund). The Steelville Police Department was able to purchase a completely outfitted Dodge Durango from the Cuba Police Department, after it decommissioned its K9 unit, through funds obtained from the grant.
Community Building rental fees increased
The cost to rent the Steelville Community Building will increase after aldermen voted to raise the fees charged at their last council meeting, held on September 15. The decision was made after discussion about ensuring the building was cleaned appropriately between rentals, especially on weekends.
Celebrate fall with fun activities for children!
A free children’s pumpkin event will be held at the Yadkin Creek Community Garden in Steelville (on Highway 8, next to H&R Block) on Saturday, October 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Vietnam veteran thanks students for their work honoring soldiers
Vietnam veteran Gary Gilliam visited Steelville Middle School students to express his appreciation for the work they are doing to honor those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Gilliam, who is from Potosi, came to visit Jennifer Whitson’s Current Events class September 16 to tell them how the work they are doing to recognize his fellow soldiers makes such a difference.
