State 'Feels Like Home' tour stops in Steelville

    Steelville was one of six communities chosen to participate in the “Missouri: Feels Like Home Tour,” a joint offering of the Missouri Community Betterment organization and the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED). On March 18, an assessment team visited the local community to look at what is currently in place and to offer suggestions for future growth and improvements.

Congressman visits local sawmill

SMITH VISITS LOCAL SAWMILL - U.S. Congressman Jason Smith (left) visited with Skip Wishon at Merritt’s Sawmill on Thursday, March 20. Smith stopped at the Steelville sawmill as part of his tour of various timber related businesses in Missouri’s Eighth Congressional District.

Duck race set for April 19

    Calling all Ducks! Preparations for the 2014 Yakin Creek Duck Race are under way! The duck race is an annual event hosted by the graduating class to gain money for their Project Graduation event.

Resident musician will perform concert at Gallery Zeke

Jazz musician Erika May Randolph is currently serving as Artist in Residence for the Steelville Arts Council. The singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist is residing in Steelville this spring as she prepares material for a public concert scheduled for Friday, May 23 at the Gallery Zeke art gallery and performance space in downtown Steelville.

SFPD issues burn warning

    Steelville fire personnel have been dispatched to a large number of calls for brush fires over the past several weeks, and this last week was no exception. There were a total of 15 calls to fight natural cover fires in the past week, with six on Saturday, March 15 alone.
