Firemen will be collecting food Saturday

    The Steelville Fire Protection District reminds everyone that the time change is a good time to remember to put new batteries in the detectors in buildings. Ensuring that batteries are working can save lives. It’s also important to have both a smoke detector and a carbon monoxide (CO) detector installed.

School district changing teacher evaluations

    Steelville teachers will be evaluated differently this year. The new system utilizes the Missouri Teacher Standards and will be much more time consuming for administrators, but will focus on improvements that can be made for each teacher in order to help students continue to learn.

Christmas festivities moving to Community Park

    Christmas in Steelville plans for this year are beginning to take shape. At the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce meeting held in October, the group discussed potential activities to celebrate the season in the community. The theme for 2014 will be “Hometown Christmas.”

Steelville earns MCB awards

    Steelville again walked away with several awards after the annual Missouri Community Betterment conference. For 2014, Steelville received both the Glenn Smith Youth Group of the Year Award, as well as first place for youth groups in their category. Kylee Sexton won a youth leadership award and the community received third place in its category.

Show investigating Steelville giant to air on History Channel

The legend of the Puckett’s Cave giant will be explored in a History Channel feature show to be televised nationally next Tuesday. The series premiere of the History Channel show “Search for the Lost Giants” airs on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 9 p.m. in the central time zone.
