Merseal becomes new school board member

    Kurt Merseal will serve as the new Steelville School Board member chosen to fill the empty seat vacated by Nancy Adams, who had to resign her position on the board after more accurate GPS mapping showed her residence is actually located in Washington County, and therefore is not within the Steelville School District boundaries. The school board accepted her resignation in May.

Steelville officer faces domestic assault charges

    A Steelville police officer is no longer employed with the department after a fight with his girlfriend allgedly escalated into physical violence. Jonathan Ross Bridges, 22, of Steelville, has been charged with class C felony domestic assault in the second degree as a result of the incident that took place in the early morning hours of June 26.

Fire department receives $2,500 grant from MDC

The SFPD has received a matching grant of $2,458.48 through the Volunteer Fire Assistance Program, which is a joint effort between the U.S. Forest Service and the MDC.

SFPD trains at junior firefighting academy

    Three members of the Steelville Fire Protection District participated in the Sullivan Junior Fire Academy during the week of June 16-20. Battalion Chief Joe Smart assisted as an instructor, Board President Michael “Tiny” Keen also helped out, and Junior Officer Nathan Howdeshell was involved in the training events.

    The Steelville Fire Protection District responded to the following calls between June 17 and 23:
    • June 18—Still alarm landing zone set up for EMS; still alarm vehicle accident at Highways M and U. Units requested for traffic control.
