Steelville residents may see increase in water and sewer rates

    Water and sewer rates may increase in Steelville this year. After hearing a report on the annual loss sustained with current rates, aldermen agreed to further discuss an increase and set a public hearing on the matter for June 2 at 6:30 p.m., but also want to further investigate water loss within the system.

School saves $500,000 in bond refinancing

    During their meeting last week, Steelville School Board members approved a refinance on the 2006 bond issue that will save the district $503,000 over the remaining life of the issue.

Park bathrooms locked as a result of vandalism

    Vandals continue to wreak havoc with Steelville park bathrooms and Police Chief Lydle Davis is fed up with it. He informed city council members that he had instructed a park employee to close the bathrooms at the Community Park indefinitely and to put a chain and locks on the doors to prevent entrance to the buildings.

SHS grades earn $250,000 in scholarships

    Steelville High School graduates in the Class of 2014 received a total of just over $250,000 in scholarships to pursue higher education. Twenty-six students were awarded scholarships, many of them receiving multiple awards.
