Seniors gather for baccalaureate at First Baptist Church

    Baccalaureate was held for graduating seniors in Steelville on April 30 at the First Baptist Church. Seniors and their friends and family members gathered for a special worship service sponsored by the Steelville Ministerial Alliance, featuring participation by several local pastors, along with Steelville High School students.

Walk will help fight modern-day slavery

    A Bible study has inspired a local woman to organize a fundraiser to help fight slavery in the 21st century. The event is called Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and participants will walk a mile in high heels to show support for women in captivity. It will take place at the Steelville Community Park on May 17 at 1 p.m. Participants will raise funds through petitions, asking for donations to support them as they walk for this cause.

Teams needed for Cuffs & Ladders softball tourney

    Softball teams can still register for the Steelville Fire Protection District Auxiliary’s Cuffs & Ladders softball tournament scheduled for June 7 at the Steelville Community Park. The auxiliary will host the tournament as a fundraiser for Fire Prevention Week activities. City will seek grant for lodge infrastructure work

    Steelville alderman approved the next step in developing the area for the proposed Bearcat Lodge project at their last city council meeting held April 21. The group agreed to seek a Delta Regional Authority (DRA) grant to help fund the infrastructure improvements that are needed for the project and to open the area for further potential development.
