City takes steps to increase water, sewer rates

Water and sewer bills will most likely increase for Steelville residents this year. Steelville aldermen passed the first reading of an ordinance that will raise the city’s water and sewer rates at the last council meeting held on August 4. Discussion on the proposed increase began in May as the city council looked at the budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year beginning July 1. And, although concerns about the current system were raised, the consensus was that rates were simply too low to maintain it effectively.
