School district buys two used buses
The Steelville School Board met on Thursday, August 21, and conducted business as follows:
SES Principal Lynne Reed reported “one of the smoothest back-to-school transitions to date,” preceded by a great turnout at Meet Your Teacher Night, with 92 percent of students attending with one or more parents or family members.
The 50th Annual Harvest Festival Parade in Steelville is Saturday, September 6, at 1:30 p.m. The parade theme this year is “50 Magical Years” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Harvest Festival. The parade is sponsored by the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce and floats for organizations, businesses and community groups are encouraged.
SFPD offers summer safety tips
The SFPD would like to remind everyone that, as the end of summer is here, it’s still important to remember to be careful of the heat. Watch out for people, especially the elderly, who are outside for an extended amount of time, and encourage them to stay hydrated, and take breaks in the shade.
Ribbon cutting held for new General Store - PHOTO GALLERY
The Lange General Store is open in Steelville and continues a family tradition of general stores for the owners, Todd and Alicia Rehmert. Two sets of great-grandparents on both sides of their families owned and operated general stores in the early 1900s. The store is named after the oldest one that opened in 1908.
Rodeo scheduled for September 5-6
The 49th Annual Ozark Trail Blazers Rodeo will be held rain or shine on September 5 and 6 in Steelville. The rodeo will be held in conjunction with the town’s Harvest Festival celebration at the Ozark Trail Blazers arena, located four miles south of Steelville on Highway 19.
