Man pulls gun on police, dies in house fire

Cuba police responding to a domestic disturbance call at 1 a.m. on Sunday, January 18 got more than what they bargained for. Authorities suspect that a man involved in the disturbance with his girlfriend may have set fire to his own home and then died in the fire. The matter is still under investigation.

Huge sculpture planned at Visitors Center - PHOTO GALLERY

It could be the biggest thing to ever hit the town of Cuba. In fact, it is almost sure to be.
An all-steel sculpture rising 30 feet into the air and 80 feet in length is being planned for construction at the Cuba Visitor’s Center.

Cuba School District agrees to host district track meet for Bourbon

If Bourbon High School is awarded this year’s Class 2 district track meet, the Cuba School Board has given approval for Bourbon to host the meet at Cuba’s track facilities. The school board voted in favor of a track usage agreement at their meeting last Wednesday, but the contract with the Bourbon district still must be reviewed and approved by their school board officials.

Cuba area candidates can file through Tuesday

The period for qualifying candidates to file for the April 2015 municipal elections remains open until the end of the workday on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Any last-minute filings must be done before offices close that afternoon.

Bussell recognized as Fireman of the Year in 2014

Ryan Bussell certainly made a good impression in his first year with the Cuba Fire Department. At the department’s annual awards banquet held on Saturday night, Bussell took home the top honor as the Cuba Fire Department’s fireman of the year for 2014.
