Abolt named valedictorian, Camp salutatorian for 2014
Seniors took the next important step in their lives last weekend, as they graduated from high school and took their diplomas, completing their education at Cuba High School. Commencement was held at the Mike Voigt Gymnasium on Saturday to a standing-room-only audience.
CDG says Project Oak still a go
Project Oak is still moving forward, even if it doesn’t look like. That’s how Mardy Leathers of the Cuba Development Group described its progress when the city council questioned last week why no construction has begun on it yet.
The local business community celebrated another successful year together at the 18th Annual Cuba Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet at Recklein Auditorium on Friday, May 2. Several awards were handed out that evening, with the highlight coming at the end of the night, when longtime chamber volunteer Norma Bretz received the Citizen of the Year Award.
Seating in the Country Kitchen restaurant’s conference room was hard to come by when engineering students from Missouri University of Science and Technology met with city officials and business leaders to discuss the improvement projects they’ve surveyed this spring. The recent meeting was the culmination of the students’ work, as they provided possible solutions for improving a number of city-related infrastructure troubles, from sidewalks in disrepair to renovations needed at Recklein Auditorium.
