Cuba School District agrees to host district track meet for Bourbon

If Bourbon High School is awarded this year’s Class 2 district track meet, the Cuba School Board has given approval for Bourbon to host the meet at Cuba’s track facilities. The school board voted in favor of a track usage agreement at their meeting last Wednesday, but the contract with the Bourbon district still must be reviewed and approved by their school board officials.

Cuba area candidates can file through Tuesday

The period for qualifying candidates to file for the April 2015 municipal elections remains open until the end of the workday on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Any last-minute filings must be done before offices close that afternoon.

Bussell recognized as Fireman of the Year in 2014

Ryan Bussell certainly made a good impression in his first year with the Cuba Fire Department. At the department’s annual awards banquet held on Saturday night, Bussell took home the top honor as the Cuba Fire Department’s fireman of the year for 2014.

Council changes meeting schedule in February and March

The Cuba City Council’s regular meeting schedule is being altered in the coming months to accommodate extended time being taken off by the city clerk for medical reasons. Changes to the council’s normal meeting schedule will be made in February and March 2015 only.

Cuba gets seven properties added to National Historic Register

    Seven properties in Cuba have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. It was a long and tedious process to have them named to the National Register, but the project spearheaded by one local woman finally came to an end in 2014 when the properties were acknowledged for their historical importance and value.
