    Vietnam veteran Gary Gilliam visited Steelville Middle School students to express his appreciation for the work they are doing to honor those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Gilliam, who is from Potosi, came to visit Jennifer Whitson’s Current Events class September 16 to tell them how the work they are doing to recognize his fellow soldiers makes such a difference.

• Superintendent, SJPD chief both say they didn’t receive June email from NAACP about incident allegedly involving racial slur, noose
    St. James Superintendent Dr. Joy Tucker issued a statement on Friday to clarify allegations that an incident of racial discrimination had occurred at the school on June 16. On Monday, St. James Police opened an investigation after being alerted about the issue.

MS&T to hold cultural celebration
