Christmas activities are coming to St. James this week. Residents can participate in the Parent Teacher Organization’s (PTO) Christmas Craft Fair, the annual Christmas parade, a holiday open house with Santa at the Depot and Christmas story hour at the James Memorial Public Library.
High school may change class schedule system
St. James High School Principal Keith McCarthy spoke to the Board of Education on November 20 about the possibility of changing from a 10-block class system to a seven-block format. As new standards are being asked of districts nationwide, McCarthy is interested in analyzing if a change would impact a teacher’s ability to work with students.
The St. James Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is still accepting donations for its holiday drive. Donations are being accepted through December 8 at any of the three school buildings or by PTO members.
Five basketball games planned for Shootout
The St. James Lady Tigers will welcome nine basketball teams to town on Saturday as they play host to the 4th Annual Community Bank of St. James Girls Varsity Basketball Shootout. Action is scheduled to get under way at 11 a.m. at John F. Hodge High School.
Late audit filing ‘not a major item’
Courtney Wegman, of Larry Hart and Associates, spoke to members of the St. James Schools Board of Education November 20 about an audit mistake made and how the issue is being addressed. Wegman said filing of an audit in 2010 was mishandled by the school’s underwriting firm, but will not cause any repercussions to the district.
