On Saturday, August 23, an organization called Change This World (CTW) will be at the St. James Community Hall in Nelson Hart Park to pack 50,000 meals. Beginning at 9 a.m., volunteers from the community will join together to package balanced meals for those suffering from hunger around the world.
The James Memorial Public Library Board will be holding a public forum on Tuesday, August 26 at 6 p.m. at the library. Members of the board and city officials will be available to answer any questions city residents have about the property tax issue, which will once again be presented to a public vote.
School opening goes well, super says
School is now in session as St. James students opened the 2014-15 school year on Monday. Teachers and students began the year with many changes.
City spending $65,000 for mapping system
For the past two months, the St. James City Council has been discussing the purchase of GIS mapping and hosting service to map manholes and electrical primary lines. On Monday night, the council passed a resolution to contract with Midland GIS Solutions for mapping services at a cost of $64,722.
Council approves small property tax increase, hears citizen complaint
A public hearing was held on the proposed tax levy increase during Monday night’s meeting of the St. James city council. No public input was heard and aldermen discussed the tax rate prior to passing the increase of $0.0042.
