Veterans Home, businesses sponsoring fireworks again

    Independence Day fireworks will be returning to St. James at the Missouri Veteran’s home. Sponsored jointly by the Veteran’s Assistance League and local businesses, the display will be a great opportunity to celebrate the Fourth of July with local residents and veterans.

City approves street paving bids

    The St. James City Council took bids for asphalt into consideration during Monday night’s June meeting. Three bids were received for the project, which will be used to pave city streets during the summer months.

Council delays action on $70,000 ultility mapping

    Members of the St. James City Council discussed bids received for GIS Solutions during their regular June meeting Monday night. Phelps County has a GIS system in place, but city administrators would like to have an updated city utilities map.

Local man won’t face charges for brother’s death

    Authorities ruled that a local man acted justifiably after killing his brother during an altercation on April 17, 2013 in Springfield, Mo. Ryan Storey, 31, of St. James, acted in self-defense, according the authorities, after his brother aggressively threatened him while he was holding his baby daughter. Storey stabbed his brother in the chest with a pocketknife, leading to his death.
