Volunteer expert talks to chamber

    St. James Chamber of Commerce members met at the Historic Depot Tuesday to hear from Dr. Karl Burgher, management consultant and economic development specialist with Sunshine Valley Communications, who discussed volunteerism in the community. Burgher has written a free-to-download e-book on ways to encourage volunteerism and keep volunteers focused on projects.

Local women are working to keep elementary kids warm this winter

    Two retired St. James women have started a project producing hats for the preschool and kindergarten classes at the Lucy Wortham James Elementary School. Denise Gordon and Nancy Gorman have been using their crochet skills to produce the hats as part of their own “Hat Project” and hope to extend their production to include first graders as well.

Missing youth returns home

    Local emergency responders initiated a search for a missing 12-year-old boy on Sunday, September 7 near the 10000 block of County Road 3470 after a missing person call was received. Reported missing was St. James boy who had been last seen playing outside near a family residence. The boy was reported missing at approximately 7:38 p.m.

Garden has been great success

    The St. James Community Garden has finished its first summer of adopted beds and has received positive responses from the businesses and individuals who participated this year. More than 1,400 pounds of produce was harvested, much of which was donated to the St. James Caring Center for its food distribution program, and the Community Garden Committee hopes to further grow the program.

Council seeks answers from foundation

    The St. James City Council held a discussion about city buildings in Nelson Hart Park during Monday night’s meeting. Alderman Alan Sachs had some questions on expenses at the facilities and the status of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO), which was raising money for renovations at the facilities.
