2014 county budget amended

    Phelps County commissioners met on December 23 to hold a public hearing on the 2015 preliminary budget. Only the Clerk-elect, Pam Grow, appeared for the hearing, but many amendments were made and approved by commissioners to close out the 2014 budget.

Taxpayer makes complaints about CR 7130

    During the week of December 18, County Commissioners:
    • Approved the Floodplain Development Application for Edward Williams in the Sugar Tree Development on the Gasconade River. Williams will be rebuilding his home and elevating it in compliance with the Floodplain Ordinance.

Man arrested for targeting elderly with construction scam

    An area man has been arrested and is currently in jail on charges for allegedly exploiting several elderly Phelps County residents by contracting with them to do construction work that was never completed.

Bid awarded for bridge work

    The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is moving forward with replacement of the Highway 8 Bridge over Dry Fork Creek east of St. James. Work is slated to take place between January and October 2015.

County sales tax revenue up 6.3 percent

    During the week of December 11, Phelps County commissioners:
    • Approved the bonds of Collector David Haas and Recorder of Deeds Robin Kordes.
    • Received the 2014 Financial Report for the Phelps County Emergency Services Board.
    • Heard from Treasurer Carol Green, who reported that sales tax receipts for the year 2014 were up 6.3 percent over the year 2013.
