Sports Club helps brighten holiday for more than 400 local children

    St. James Sports Club volunteers wrapped up their toy drive season on December 22. After months of collecting donations and toys to deliver to needing children in the community, members and volunteers met to wrap toys in an evening event before delivering them to the community for Christmas.

2013 was year of improvements in St. James

    This past year was a big year for St. James, with many new projects and additions to the city. Many changes have been experienced over the past 12 months and these are some of the top stories of 2013.

Caring Center helped brighten the holidays for lots of residents

    The St. James Caring Center has been busy over the past two months, giving back to families in the community with holiday food drives and stocking programs. This year, 396 families received complete Thanksgiving meals and 406 families received a complete Christmas meal. Many seniors also received a stocking full of gifts, filled by residents who adopt-a-senior.

Five have filed for school board posts

    Candidate filings are under way for seats on the St. James City Council, Board of Education, and ambulance and fire districts in the April election. Several seats are up for election and filing will continue until January 21 at 5 p.m.

Students unhurt in minor school bus wreck

    A wreck involving a St. James school bus and a sports utility vehicle on December 16 occurred on Old Highway 66. The driver of the SUV was injured, but the four children on the bus sustained no injuries, according to a Rolla Police Department incident report. The accident occurred on the 12000 block of Old Highway 66.

Downtown building will be razed

    A court ruling has been delivered on a vacated building on Washington Street in downtown St. James. After a judge saw a petition by the city of St. James last week, a ruling in favor of allowing the city to tear the building down was issued.
