Man leads cops on high-speed chase

    A pursuit that began in Steelville and ended near Onondaga Cave south of Leasburg has resulted in two charges of resisting arrest for a De Soto man.

E-911 Board notes from November meeting

    The Crawford County E-911 Communications Board met on November 11 and conducted business as follows:
    • Plans for installation of a new storage building were discussed. The storage building is needed to house files and equipment currently piling up in the office. The board was able to purchase a building for $4,800 (less than half of its’ value) that was in repossession. STE, from whom the 911 office space is leased, will take care of the necessary ground preparation and set up since there is no place available inside their facility for the storage.

Tax-deductible contributions can now be made to Vietnam War Era Monument

    The Crawford County Foundation has launched an effort to raise money to help Steelville Middle School students complete the Crawford County Vietnam War Era Monument that will be placed on the courthouse lawn. You can now make tax-deductible contributions for this project through the end of December.


Crawford County Relay for Life moving to Steelville

    Steelville will host the Crawford County Relay for Life in 2015. Organizers received approval from the Steelville City Council in October to have the event at the Steelville Community Park on June 5-6, 2015.

Numerous felonies filed against Steelville man

    A Steelville man faces nine felony counts related to two separate encounters with law enforcement in October. William Lee Rutz, Jr., 25, stands charged with four counts class C felony possession of a controlled substance, class C felony assault of a law enforcement officer in the second degree, class C felony tampering in the first degree, class D felony possession of burglar’s tools, class D felony resisting a lawful stop, and class D felony leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

Crawford County Commission notes for October

    • October 7—Commissioners approved a bid for water heater replacement in the county jail. Flatt Plumbing bid for two 100-gallon water heaters and a circulating pump to be installed at a cost of $29,142.64, in addition to a necessary venting kit to be installed for $1,681. The total cost of the bid was $30,823.64, and included materials and labor (at prevailing wage).
