Long-term drug investigation leads to numerous arrests on Tuesday

At approximately 6 a.m. on July 22, members of the South Central Drug Task Force, in coordination with the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, Rolla (MO) Police Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, concluded a long-term narcotics investigation in Phelps County.

Sex offender arrested for failing to register new address

    A former Crawford County resident who was a convicted sex offender has been arrested after he moved to Phelps County and allegedly failed to register his new address as required by law.

Bats found near bridge work zone

    While completing survey work for the Dry Fork Bridge project on Highway 8/68, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) discovered an issue they will have to work around. A cave with seasonal bats was discovered in the area, which will lead to restrictions on what times the bridge could be constructed.

County sales tax up nearly six percent over last year

    During the week of July 15, Phelps County commissioners:
    • Heard from Treasurer Carol Green, who reported that sales tax receipts for June 2014 were up 17.38 percent over June 2013. Year to date totals are up 5.9 percent over the same period in 2013.
    • Approved the Tough on Trash Grant quarterly status report.
