Maramec Spring Park had an awesome day at Saturday for its Ninth Annual Ladies Fishing Day, whichbrought 333 female anglers to the park. Fourteen out of 40 lunkers were checked in with the biggest topping the scales at 7.6 pounds, which was caught by Tiffany Femmer, of Cuba, who is shown with her new lunker patch.
Dove hunting be danged
Remember a couple of weeks ago, when in this very column I said that I had decided not to hunt doves anymore. I think that was a very good idea. But I went anyway, on opening day, after my old friend Rich Abdoler said he was going by himself.

MDC to hold vehicle and equipment auction Oct. 18 in Salem
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold a public auction of various used vehicles, and equipment on Saturday, Oct. 18, starting at 10 a.m. at its Salem Maintenance Center, 1715 Hwy 32 West. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. The auction will include dozens of vehicles, along with ATVs, trailers, boats, outboard motors, mowers, generators, blowers, pumps and other equipment.
Buzz-birds of two kinds
Someone asked me recently when hummingbird feeders should be taken down, to insure that hummingbirds would migrate on time and not be caught in a winter snap of some sort. I once believed that was important, but I realize now that leaving feeders filled with liquid has nothing to do with delaying the little birds’ migration flight. It doesn’t.
