Cross country season gets under way at Vienna meet

    After having their first meet in Sullivan canceled due to rain on September 9, the Steelville Cardinals cross country teams finally opened their 2014 season Saturday in Linn. The SMS boys had the best team result with a third-place finish, while Sarah Usher led the high school squads by taking second place in the varsity girls’ race.

Lady Cards suffer first loss

    The Steelville High School varsity volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season in Viburnum on September 8. The Lady Cards fell to the Blue Jays in three sets, but were able to beat Cuba in three sets later last week.

    The Steelville High School baseball team played three road games last week and came home with just one victory. The Cardinals lost in Vienna and Kingston, but got a win in Dixon.

Baseball Cardinals open fall season with two wins - PHOTO GALLERY

    The SHS Cardinals baseball team is now 2-0 this fall after opening the season with wins over Newburg and Bismarck. Steelville defeated Newburg 15-6 and beat Bismarck 11-5.

    The Steelville Lady Cardinals played their home volleyball opener last Friday when they hosted Valley. Steelville won both matches in two sets.

Softball Lady Cards fall to Cuba

    The Steelville High School softball team opened its Gasconade Valley Conference schedule in Cuba on September 2 and pushed the Wildcats to seven innings before falling 7-2. The Lady Cardinals are now 1-8.
