Plein Air artists working this week

    Steelville and the surrounding area are crawling with artists from around the country this week as part of the Plein Air event sponsored by the Steelville Arts Council (STARCO). Nearly 20 artists from three states are here all this week painting in different areas each day with a public auction to end the week at the Meramec Adventure Learning Ranch on Friday, June 21.

Cherokee riders pass through Steelville

    Twenty-two Cherokee Nation and Eastern Band Cherokee citizens visited Steelville June 13 for one of many stops on the Remember the Removal bicycle ride commemorating the 175th anniversary of the Trail of Tears.

    Rising temperatures mean fireworks are just around the corner! Area citizens are invited to join the Steelville Area Chamber Commerce for the annual July 4th Freedom Festival at the Steelville City Park.

Two-thirds of students attend Summer School

    Nearly 600 Steelville students enjoyed the first session of summer school. According to Superintendent Nathan Holder, due to having almost two-thirds of the student body enrolled in the first session of summer school, it is projected that the district will be able to increase their Average Daily Attendance (ADA) fund for next year by over 20 students, which translates into more than $125,000.
