Sawmill storage building burns

    Steelville fire personnel, assisted by Cuba and St. James fire crews and Steelville EMS workers, fought an Easter Sunday fire at a local sawmill. The first alarm, commercial fire was at a large storage building located on West Highway 8. Battalion Chief Joe Smart reported the building contained motors, along with various pieces of equipment and parts for the sawmill, and that the fire completely destroyed the structure and contents.

Large crowd enjoys duck race - PHOTO GALLERY

    Nearly 1,000 little yellow ducks (and gold ducks, and one red duck) floated, swirled, and bobbed their way down the Yadkin Creek on Saturday in the annual duck race that serves as a fundraiser for Project Graduation for the current year’s Steelville High School senior class.

City agrees to fund summer ball program

    Kids in Steelville will get to play ball this summer after the city and the Sports Club were able to come to an agreement on a contract for the program. After aldermen approved a new contract at a special meeting held on April 14 and sent it to the club, members responded with a counter proposal and asked for clarification on some of the details. Discussion and approval of the Sports Club’s proposal took place at Monday’s regular city council meeting.
