New Christmas royalty crowned
Christmas royalty was crowned on Sunday at the 26th Annual Christmas Prince & Princess Pageant held at the Meramec Music Theatre. Carlisle Horton is the 2013 Christmas Prince and Kayleen Richardson is the 2013 Christmas Princess. There was a tie for the first runners-up to the prince: Caden Collinson and Carter DeRennaux. The first runner-up to the princess was Claire Settles.
Steelville man instrumental in passing new law
Drivers should be extra careful when passing an emergency scene, but unfortunately, that is not always the case. Several years ago, Steelville Ambulance Administrator Bill Patt was almost hit while working at an accident scene, and realized at that point something needed to be done to protect not only the lives of the first responders at the scene, but also the victims on the site as well. He began work with legislators with the result that a new law was passed earlier this year creating stiff fines for those who endanger the lives of emergency personnel.
Argument over a beer leads to shooting
A Steelville man has been charged with class A felony assault in the first degree after shooting another man on November 30. Michael Dennis Hartman, 44, admitted to shooting James Marty after an argument over a beer. Class A felonies hold a potential sentence of 10 to 30 years in prison if he is found guilty of the crime.
Filing begins soon for April election
Filing will begin this month for those interested in serving on local boards in the Steelville community or as officials within the city of Steelville. General Municipal Election Day will be on Tuesday, April 8, and voters will go to the polls to fill a number of positions on these governing bodies.
Father arrested for making fake Facebook threats, original suspect released
Further investigation into the case of Facebook threats against a Steelville High School student has led to a new arrest, and the withdrawal of charges against the initial suspect. The new suspect in the case is the original victim’s father.
